This is the second render of the introduction to my final outcome! I shot this originally at 10fps, but I experimented with this version and rendered it at half of that (5fps) to see what visual effect this had.

I think because the original shots were a little jumpy and lacking in fluidity, 10fps highlighted this and gave the tester an extremely anxious tension, completely at odds with what I am aiming for in my final outcome.

As such I created this one, and am really pleased with the visual calmness that it seems to have. Whilst I would love to use 5fps for my final outcome (it would cut my work load by 2/3!!) this isn’t an option, so I have resolved to use more fluid movements, to reshoot these titles, and to work to a frame rate that is a multiple of 5. (This will allow me to shoot at 10, but potentially render at either 5 or 15fps). Hooha!! :P

After making some decisions about the methods and materials to use in the final outcome, I went through my story board scene-by-scene, and made a list of all the “props” that i’d need to source and/or make. This was the basis of my prop-making today :o)

As of now, the pink ones are the ones completed, and the others are the the plan for this evening/ tomorrow. (Or i’m still debating using them!).

This is my story board. I don’t usually work in this method, but on this occasion I found it really useful in planning and visualising the connections between scenes and the animation as a whole. It also allowed me to make sure I would have variation within the imagery I employ.

The storyboard plots the main points and some of the connecting scenes, whilst the notes detail ideas about materials and methods, and the orange highlighter represents transition scenes and elements that aren’t drawn but need realising visually.

Wow! Well, today was a *SUPER* productive day! I have pretty much completed all of my animation props to the scale and finish that I need, and sourced about 95% of the other things I need. This means that hopefully I should be able to start shooting tomorrow!

..just checked out the new Ladyhawke single “Black and White and Blue” on Spotify. It’s not overly my type of music, but she has consistently amazing album artwork. I’m planning to investigate further!
